Buongiorno ragazzi!
Per iniziare questo week-end estivo e caldo vi parlo di un altro dei trend dell’estate: il panama!
Nasce attorno al 1825 in Ecuador nella provincia di Manabì, e prende il nome dell’omonima città che per anni ne è stata il punto di commercio principale.
Il panama è un tipo di cappello realizzato a mano con fibre di una palma nana chiamata Carludovica palmata: esse vengono lasciate all’interno di una grotta per lungo tempo, in modo che mantengano l’umidità fino a quanto il cappello non viene creato.
Le forme del panama sono varie: tese larghe, molle o rivolte all'insù, teste tondeggianti con incavatura centrale, ammaccature laterali e ornato con nastro colorato (ma solitamente nero), spesso a disegni. Gli intrecciatori sono oggi veramente pochi, ed essi conoscono tecnicamente tutto ciò che riguarda la lavorazione della paglia, la sua stagionatura e i tempi di riposo.
Il panama “originale” diciamo, è di paglia bianca, ma attualmente ne troviamo un po’ di tutti i colori: la classica paglia “gialla” o comunque non perfettamente bianca, il nastro viene abbellito a volte con fiocchi o altri ornamenti, per creare un cappello versatile e adatto a tutti i gusti e occasioni.
Un tempo questo cappello era sinonimo di eleganza e ricercatezza, oggi lo vediamo un po’ ovunque: credo che sia un pezzo indispensabile nell’armadio di ognuno di noi. Io lo indosso quasi sempre nelle giornate di mare, abbinandolo solitamente alla borsa (rigorosamente di paglia), ma non sono rare le volte in cui lo uso anche per uscire in città. In alcuni casi mi aiuta a rendere l’outfit a prima vista semplice più ricercato e lo abbino a semplici shorts in denim e una canottiera colorata, e in altri ottengo l’effetto opposto, cioè quello di rendere meno “pesante” un abbinamento abbastanza particolare. Come ho detto, il panama è sicuramente uno dei must-have della stagione estiva, e non parlo esclusivamente dell’estate 2010. Io lo considero un evergreen.

The panama is a type of hat, hand-made with fiber of a dwarf palm called Carludovica palmata: they are left in a cave for a long time in order to maintain the humidity up to what the hat is not created.
The various forms of Panama are: wide-brimmed, soft or upturned, round heads with depression in the central and lateral bruises adorned with colored tape (but usually black), often patterned. The weavers are now very few, and technically they know everything about working with straw, its seasoning and rest periods.
The “original” panama is of white straw, but now they are a bit of all colors: the classic straw “yellow” or not perfectly white, the tape is embellished sometimes with bows or other ornaments to create a versatile hat and suit all tastes and occasions.
Once this hat was synonymous with elegance and refinement, today we see a bit everywhere: I think it’s an essential piece in the closet of each of us. I almost always wear it in the sea days, combining it usually the stock (strictly straw), but they are not rare the times when I use it to exit the city. In some cases it helps me make the outfit more simple at first glance particular, combining it with a simple denim shorts and a colored vest, and others get the opposite effect, namely to make it less “heavy” a rather unusual combination. As I said, Panama is definitely a must-have for the summer season, and not only speak of summer 2010. I consider it an evergreen. Opinions, thanks! :)
